Blue Water has just been awarded the contract to achieve the lowest NPDES permit for phosphorus discharge from a municipal wastewater treatment plant in the nation. Plummer, Idaho has a 50 part per billion phosphorus permit, one of only a handful of cities in the nation that have a permit at this level. The challenge for cities near impacted receiving waters is a cost-effective and maintenance-friendly solution to achieve low phosphorus concentrations, the hallmark of Blue Water's technology.

For Plummer, the final phosphorus limit was determined by a collective process involving the EPA, IDEQ, and the Coeur d'Alene Tribe. The overall job went to competitive bid, was under budget, and has broken ground. Contractors Northwest Inc., of Coeur d'Alene, Idaho is the General Contractor. The upgraded plant will be operational in early 2010. This project will generate over $30 million in regional economic impact.

This solution to Plummer's wastewater woes is significant as they have effectively been in a development moratorium due to lack of sewer capacity and cost-effective technology to achieve permit levels. Even in a cool economy, city leaders must plan for the future.

Along with many municipal jobs spread over the country, the Plummer upgrade solidifies Blue Water's claim to being the most cost-effective, maintenance-friendly phosphorus removal solution in the nation.
